Background Story
On September 3rd, we left for Cabo San Lucas for a fishing trip with Linda & Terry Smith. After 7 days of great fishing, lots of beer drinking and just an all around good time we began our trip home. On September 10th, on our layover in DFW, Jerry had a severe brain hemorhage as a result of an aneurysm. He was rushed by ambulance to Baylor Irving at which time they thought he was having a stroke. Upon result of his CT scan the doctors discovered it was not a stroke but a brain aneurysm. He was then transported by ambulance to "Big Baylor" in downtown Dallas. He was admitted to the Neuro ICU on the morning of September, 11th. He remained concious to semi-concious upon arrival to Baylor Irving but continued to decline upon arrival to ER at Baylor Dallas. His mental status began to deteriorate quite rapidly upon arrival in Dallas. Within a few hours, he became non-responsive. He was placed on a ventilator, drains to reduce fluid and pressure on his brain once he was placed in ICU. The doctors attempted to repair the aneurysm via arteriogram on Sunday, September 11th but were unsuccessful. The following Monday evening, Dr. Kyle Doughty successfuly clamped the aneurysm through a craniotomy. He returned from sugery back to ICU. He has had no further bleeding. Over the next few days, he continued to be non-responsive. A filter has been placed in one of his large arteries to prevent throwing a clot to one of is lungs. He began having subclinical seizure activity, only visible on an EEG. This has continued all week but subsided on Tuesday, September 20th with the aid of multiple anti-seizure meds. He is still on the ventilator but breathing some on his own. They put in a trach so he now no longer has all of the tubes in his mouth and down his throat. He looks much better now, not quite so scary looking and is surely much more comfortable for him. They also put in a feeding tube that goes straight to his stomach like he had before, (but I don't think they will let him pour beer down it quite yet!)
We are continuing to be optimistic and ready for him to wake up and ask us where the hell have you all been??!! He is taking "baby steps" every day towards his recovery. At times we are impatient and discouraged but in our hearts we know he just needs time to heal.

The Norman Transcript
NORMAN � Mr. Jerry Wayne Meyer passed away early Monday morning, April 23, 2012, at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City, just one day after his 61st birthday.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at CrossPointe Church in Norman with Bob Usry officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph�s Catholic Cemetery in Norman. Arrangements are by Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
Born April 22, 1951, in Purcell, Jerry was the son of Joseph Raymond and Essie (McHughes) Meyer.
Jerry was a lifelong resident of Norman, graduating from Norman High School in 1969. He attended the University of Oklahoma for a brief time before co-founding Meyer Brothers Construction Co. in Norman with his brother, Lynn, in 1971. Jerry continued to be a vital partner in the company until his death.
Jerry was united in marriage to Kathryn Reiner on June 10, 1985, in Las Vegas. Jerry and Kathy made their home in Norman, devoting a significant amount of their time working on the family farm. They both cared for numerous head of cattle, chickens and horses and maintained a large vegetable garden that provided fresh produce to Norman residents.
Nothing brought Jerry more joy and peace than spending time fishing with his family and friends. No matter what Jerry was doing or where he was, he was always ready to spend quiet time fishing somewhere.
Jerry had a strong work ethic and put forth his best in everything he did. He will be remembered for his big heart and his genuine nature. He never met a stranger and would help anybody that he could. He will be missed, but we celebrate his wonderful life and give thanks for the years that we were blessed to have him with us.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Essie McHughes Meyer.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn of the home; his father, Joseph Ray Meyer of Norman; one son, Brandon Meyer and his wife, Apryl, of Norman; two daughters, Jennifer Leen of San Francisco, and Valerie Garrison and her husband, Fred, of Forney, Texas; two brothers; Lynn Meyer and his wife, Patsy, and Bruce Meyer and his wife, Twilia, all of Norman; two sisters, Denise Meyer and Donna Meyer, both of Norman; and five grandchildren; Reese Meyer, Kane Meyer, Aly Meyer, Mia Garrison and Ella Garrison.
